A lot can happen in 10 years ... if you have children this is especially easy to see. The Mennel Milling Roanoke team in Roanoke, Virginia recently celebrated a major safety milestone, 10 years without a lost-time incident. When reflecting on this accomplishment, I think about how different Mennel looked 10 years ago ... as a company, with its safety programs, and the influence of leaders over this time. This accomplishment would be difficult without effective safety programs and leadership commitment. However, this is absolutely impossible without the entire Roanoke team committing, on a daily basis, to work safely and minimize risk.
Like I said, a lot can happen in 10 years. So instead of only focusing on what didn't happen in Roanoke over the last 10 years, here are few things that did happen.
- The team worked over 3,650 consecutive days in which everyone went home and were able to return to work the next day.
- More than 1,900 hours of safety training were conducted.
- Flour shipped over the past 10 years – 23,895,858 CWTs
- Flour truck loads shipped – over 47,000
- Bushels of wheat consumed – over 39,000,000 bushels
Mennel Milling Roanoke Plant Manager Caleb Peck added, “We have a fantastic team here in Roanoke. Everyone takes safety, and their jobs, to the highest regard and looks after one another, it is truly a family like atmosphere. I am very honored to be able to lead a team like we have here in Roanoke".
Congratulations Roanoke team and THANK YOU for your commitment to safety!
