The Harter Milling Company was founded in Fostoria, Ohio, by the Harter and Brown families. They chose Fostoria for its natural gas, accessibility, and railroad access.

The company was purchased by Alphonse and his sons, Louis and Mark Mennel, and renamed to The Mennel Milling Company.

The Roanoke Flour Mill was purchased in Roanoke, Virginia.

The Dowagiac Flour Mill was purchased in Dowagiac, Michigan. It is one of the 10 oldest businesses in Michigan.

We purchased a grain elevator in Mexico, Indiana.

Mennel purchased a grain elevator in Kingston, Ohio.

A grain elevator was purchased in Alger, Ohio.

The Mt. Olive Flour Mill was purchased in Mt. Olive, Illinois.

We built Class 8 Truck Repair in Fostoria, Ohio. Class 8 Truck Repair is a full-service repair facility for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and buses, including road-to-rail trucks.

Mennel invested in a state-of-the-art research lab connected to the Fostoria Flour Mill.

MMC Transport was established to operate and manage our own fleet of trucks.
1999
We purchased a grain elevator in Troy, Ohio.
2005
Mennel invested in a state-of-the-art flour mill in Bucyrus, Ohio, to expand our soft wheat and organic wheat milling operations.

We purchased the Old Dominion Grain elevator in West Point, Virginia, conveniently located on a peninsula.

We built a highly automated and technologically advanced mill on a greenfield site in Roanoke, Virginia.

D. Ford Mennel, fifth generation, was elected as President.

Mennel purchased Mennco Grain based in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. This included four grain facilities: C&O, Farm, Nevada, and Wharton.
2014
We founded BMP Maintenance Group to provide property maintenance, construction, landscaping, and snow removal services for the Fostoria campus and surrounding areas.

We purchased a large grain elevator in Morral, Ohio.
2016
We built a new corporate office in the former Seneca Wire building to consolidate operations.

Mennel purchased Renwood Mills, a mill and bakery mix facility, in Newton, North Carolina.

Mennel invested in Mennex, a processing and packing facility in Fostoria, Ohio.
2017
We acquired the largest dry mix facility in the U.S., Martel Dry Mix, LLC, in Caledonia, Ohio.
2018
Mennel acquired Keynes Brothers Inc., which included a flour mill in Logan, Ohio, and three grain elevators: Atlanta, Jeffersonville, and Radnor.
2021
We expanded capabilities and began producing small-pack flour at the Fostoria Flour Mill, Logan Flour Mill, and Mennex.
2025
Mennel rebuilt and modernized the Mennel Grain West Point facility in West Point, Virginia.

We acquired the Toledo Flour Mill, the largest mill in Ohio and the second largest in the U.S., from Mondelez International Inc.
